I have been waiting a very long time to capture one of these dragonflies, and when I finally get the chance, does it land on a beautiful flower?.......No!..... it chooses a support wire of one of my hanging baskets. So I have to get a chair from my house and climb up and attempt to capture it while trying not to fall off! :D I think i've nearly caught up with everyone! just a few more to go! Best view this one large!
Any tips or constructive criticism are welcome :)

Perfect.

I think the wire shows of its wings much more than a flower would anyway :)

This is a superb shot Mary and I had the same problem too with trying to capture a dragonfly shot. It decided to land on my washing line and I have multi coloured pegs and it took the beauty away from the dragonfly and made it look really drab :-(

I agree with Mike Raffan, this way all attention goes to the subtle dragonfly wings, I like the sunlight reflections and the brick wall makes a perfect background!

Beautiful capture and great detail.

Wow! Well worth all your effort - love the delicacy you've caught here. On warm days we get hordes of them just swooping around in great numbers over the apartments grassy area - and I have never yet seen one land anywhere near my patio or little garden. I guess they are just sticking together in a bunch. :-)

We have to suffer for our art by teetering on chairs!! Well done MaryB!!

Bravo! And good for you, climbing up to get this one. I often think of dragonflies as jewels on the wing. The light shining off its wing here is like one of the many facets; the color of the jeweled eyes and body are great. Excellent MaryB.

Wow! Dragonflies are one of my favorite insects. This is a lovely pic! I've tried to get pix of this insect, but I've never succeeded to this level of perfection.

Superb shot! I agree, the wire is a good thing after all. You were luky it waited for you to get the chair, but next time maybe you should keep a ladder handy, after all we don't want to read in the paper that our photographer friend had an accident....
