Pompeii.

This is the first of three, photographs from Pompeii. we were there for only 2hrs! not nearly enough time, to stop for all the phototgraphs I wanted to take, and there was so many people around made it harder in some places than others. (still took lots though) we stopped at one place and lost the guide! we had earphones so we could hear the guides talk, we had to just keep going in and out of the labrinth of streets till we picked up the signal again LOL!
The Forum, Thermal Baths.
These baths were established in the 1st Century B.C. and were the only ones still in use after the earthquake of 62 A.D. The heating and cooling system of the rooms were achieved by pipes running through the cavities in the walls.
The City was destroyed (but also preserved) when Mount Vesuvius erupted in AD 79 covering the city and the people who remained there in a thick layer of volcanic ash.

I've scanned this picture from an old book that I have, this is part of the City of Pompeii, it streches beyond the picture to both the east and west. Click the link to see :)http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j135/snow_flake58/Pompeii.jpg
