We've had a few day's off for May day, so on Sunday we went to the British Falconry & Raptor Fair (and Country Fair). The weather was apalling, some really heavy showers and quite dark and overcast for the rest of the time but it was still a great day out. There was an amazing display of all kinds of birds of prey. There were also dogs of all shapes and sizes too. The next few posts will be from there. This is one of those shot's you see and you just have to take, I would have liked a little more of the fellas head in the shot but he was standing by a pole, also the bird was being carried along by his handler and I had to be quick or else the moment would have been lost :)
BIG apologies for not getting around to commenting on Friday, the darn computer was running soooo slow, I lost patience with it and gave up till Monday evening. We have a new computer in it's box waiting to get installed, oh I can't wait :)
Thank you to everyone for your comments on my last post :)
Any tips or constructive criticism are welcome :)
I really appreciate all your comments, thank you so much. I'm only sorry I've not got time to respond. I do read all the comments and will try to answer any questions you have about my posts :)
It still makes for a neat image.

This is magnificent Mary! And I know what an incredible experience it is to stand by these majestic birds. Their eyes and feathers are amazing. I had some series a while back on the birds we photographed while in France. Never had been so close to them and did not miss the opportunity of bringing back millions of takes :)

This is a great shot, with a magnificent dof. Overcast days are great, as the colours come out so nicely, as in this one. Lovely work, Mary.

"...I will say zis only once" - possibly an obscure and mysterious comment depending on your age and your television watching habits! :) Great shot...so sharp and clear, well done.
6 May 2008 5:30pm
great capture! i don't think i'd want my ear so close to that beak. it looks dangerous and really cute at the same time. like how you captured the eye and feathers. great color too.
6 May 2008 6:45pm
Nice capture and beautiful details. Good separation with the background. I like the fact that you have included part of the heads but I feel that the red-pink color is in competition with the yellow beak. May be a little desaturation on the red colors?
6 May 2008 6:58pm
A stunning capture.
6 May 2008 7:19pm
No tips or constructive criticism needed for this one Mary; you saw the opportunity and made the most out of it. Cracking shot.

What a handsome fellow. Good use of shallow DOF so that the handler's ear was minimized in importance!

nice capture Mary. nice job on the selective focus
