As we made our way to Dover, we had to stop off here to pick someone up. Taken through the coach/bus window.

In this perspective the bridge makes a sort of wave. And it's a testimony of how our everyday life is marred by traffic congestion.

Traffic like this makes me want to shudder. Being in a bus makes it somebody else's job to navigate through it all. This is a very good photo of congestion.

This is both an architectural shot and a shot of transportation!
I was curious about the one-way traffic so googled it to find: The facility comprises of two two-lane tunnels carrying traffic to the north and a four-lane cable-stayed bridge carrying traffic to the south. ... Now I know.
Sadly we won't be coming to England for our 50th anniversary as we had hoped, but we won't mind missing this kind of traffic. ... BRAVO for your shot!

Good old Google, we'd just traveled over the bridge, and as strange as it sounds and looks, it's quite free flowing once your on there (well the times we've been across at least) we only stopped for a short time, and I got a couple of shots of the Thames, looking towards London. I must post them sometime soon :)
What a shame about you not being able to vist for your 50th, have you been to the UK before? We were hoping to visit the US for our 25th in August, but we're not able to make it either, due to the fact we'd be away for a month and with my hubbie being self employed and the state of the economy here at the moment, we thought it wouldn't be a good idea this year. Hoping for a Cruise to New England in 2011 for my hubbies 50th though :)

You can definitely see the change in the light - this one is a far harsher light than yesterday's soft afternoon glow.....wow and look at all that traffic! :) Nice shot Mary

Oh my, Mary. That is quite the traffic. I had a mild heart palpitation when the shot came up! After living in the boondocks for 3 years now, I can no longer handle this kind of traffic. A great capture of city life!

what an awsome bridge! this is a great composition! it shows off the nice lines of the bridge very well. I think I see some reflection from the bus window down in the right corner? doesn't matter, good image, nice capture.

@Cheryl: Thanks Cheryl, when I first saw this bridge, it took my breath away lol.
The thing on the right hand corner is a Dolphin sculpture, if I remember correctly :) although it was a nightmare trying to get a shot through the window, without a reflection and sometimes after we'd been traveling for a while, the window was filthy, some of the best shot's of buildings that I took are spoilt by dead insects :)
Just looked again, I think that's where I did some pp to get rid of a chip on the window lol :)

@Mike: Cheers Mike, thankfully we weren't driving, but as busy as it looks, and with 85,000 vehicles per day on the bridge alone! it was moving pretty quickly.

Wow.... that is a great shot Mary. I like how the depth is compressed, and the angle is brilliant. I've been thru Dartford tunnel but over not the bridge.

@Observing: Thanks Mike, it was a lovely soft sunny morning, and the bridge looked amazing, as the road is 65mtrs above the water, you get a great view from up there.

@zOOm: This is a very busy bridge, around 85,000 vehicles per day, and topping 1000 at peak times.

Love the soft, morning light, here, MaryB. Mix that beautiful soft light with all the vertical and horizontal lines, throw in the flow of traffic and you have a fine photo. Is this the way to the "white cliffs"?

@Ron: Thank you Ron, yes it is, only about an hours drive from Dover. when you cross this bridge, the view along the Thames Estuary is amazing, the height of the road deck is 65 mtrs above the water, so you get a great view.

What an interesting coincidence that we both shared a photo of a bridge seen from an angle rarely seen. There is a lot of symmetry expressed in this capture that leads to the "flow" of the traffic.

A nice angle with the diagonale of the bridge followed by the curves. All those vertical lines and the electic wires and their parralel on the road ramp below make a very nice grid in the picture.
