Taking in some rays

Even creatures of the night love a little sunshine :)

I'm so excited I've just got to share this with you! for a long time now we've been feeding hedgehogs on dried cat food,( a favourite of there's and recommended food to put out for them) and have noticed that Slugs, blackbirds and Cats have also enjoyed the feast, tonight Ian, was putting out the food, for the second time, as the dish was empty ( I'd already done it about a half an hour before), and low and behold there was a fox!
I think that the word has got around, that we provide a wildlife buffet :D

Oh, Mary, what a wonderful shot ... I've never seen an owl this close.

Your story of the hedgehogs is intriguing; I've never seen one of those except in photos. We used to have a fox saunter through our back yard, always going between the pool screening and the shrubs, as if s/he was 'hidden'. Of course we could see him from inside the house.

I love the tilt of the head to take in the full sunlight! Oh, and it is fun to see wildlife...but around here if we fed the foxes, we would be in deep trouble. There are so many already that they walk through our backyard and "scream" at each other just below our windows at night! We certainly can't feed them and attract more! :0P

Beautiful! I know there are owls around here but I have yet to actually see one in the wild.

I have seen an occasional fox, lots of dear, raccoons, opossums, turkeys, and there has even been the occasional bear wandering through our busy NJ suburbs. Putting food out is pretty much a no no here. It will attract some very undesirable destructive critters to your property and in some areas where bears are a particular issue it is against the law. Some places have had cases where bears have actually broken into the house and raided the refrigerators. So people are required to keep their property bear proof so as not to make it attractive to them. Kind of scary.

Beautiful capture and a beautiful moment to see such a creature up close. I love the tiny yellow beak.
Your story is interesting and I admire that you take the time to provide and offering to the wildlife in your area.
When homes are built and families move in the wildlife that once roamed there is often forgotten.
I welcome them to my yard as well.
