My special place. Cannock Chase.Posted by MaryB (Staffordshire, United Kingdom) on 7 November 2008 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio. I thought long and hard about where my special place was, my home was top of my list but I chose the second place Cannock Chase Forest. Why? well because for one it is a beautiful place, where one can be alone even in the company of others. Two it has the most wonderful vibes and the wild life, trees and scenery are fabulous too! Here any stress that you have just melts away and it's only a few minutes from where I live. This is just a small part of the Chase, there is an ancient oak forest which is truly magical (I will post a shot of it in the future) and it was made an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty the year I was born. I don't think my birth had any influence at all lol but I still love the place :) Cannock Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) In England and Wales , there is a huge variety of scenery and landscapes, from dramatic coasts to remote mountains. Those landscapes considered most valuable are designated as National Parks or Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONBs). These landscapes are protected by law and managed to maintain their special character for now and the future. Cannock Chase and its associated animal and plant communities are part of an historic landscape dating back thousands of years. Wild deer still roam the Chase and are probably descended from the original herd introduced in Norman times for hunting purposes. There is now considerable economic and recreational pressure on this beautiful landscape and the new Cannock Chase AONB Management Plan aims to ensure the right balance is maintained to conserve and enhance the area whilst maintaining it as a living, working environment. ............................................................................................................
